“The Eye of Helios”

3m diameter Rose window handmade in my studio using the age old techniques of hand painting and staining, with cut pieces of antique glass leaded together in the traditional manner. The design is inspired by the legend of the Greek sun god Helios, who brought light and warmth to all continents of the world. The central motif of the sun radiates outwards in a delicate arrangement of greens and blues with textures and images which include musical instruments such as the violin, the harp and the French horn, and even includes the humble honey bee.

The colour scheme has been chosen to compliment the vernacular colours of the interior. The window has been created as a metaphorical beacon of light and colour radiating from St. Peter’s church to the wider community of Manchester.
