Derek has been a practicing stained glass artist for over 24 years and is a Fellow of the British Society of Master Glass Painters; he is also an accredited stained glass conservator. He regularly works with English Heritage, the Council for the Care of Churches and the Churches Conservation Trust. After graduating from Edinburgh Art College in 1984 Derek set up Limelight Studios in 1985 and his commissioned designs can be found in churches, theatres, schools, public libraries, shopping centres and private buildings in Britain and abroad.

Derek contributes articles on contemporary stained glass to a variety of publications and lectures on architectural glass.
